Materia is engineered not just for efficiency, but for a profound sense of wellbeing. By adhering to the rigorous principles of the Passivhaus standard, we have created an environment that offers a sanctuary of consistent comfort and pure air, decoupling the interior climate from the external world. This is achieved through a synthesis of integrated systems, each contributing to a holistic experience.
The most immediate benefit is a home free from temperature fluctuations. By creating a meticulously sealed and insulated building envelope, we eliminate drafts and cold spots entirely. This passive stability means the house remains comfortable year-round, dramatically reducing the active effort and energy needed to maintain your ideal temperature.
A silent, integrated Heat Recovery Ventilation system works 24/7 to ensure the air you breathe is exceptionally healthy. It constantly extracts stale indoor air and replaces it with fresh, filtered outdoor air, removing dust, pollutants, and allergens in the process. This creates a well-oxygenated environment that is proven to enhance wellness and vitality.
The same elements that deliver thermal control—high-performance insulation, triple-glazed windows, and an airtight envelope—also create a remarkably quiet interior. The system effectively dampens external noise, creating a tranquil and peaceful refuge from the city. This is a true luxury that has a profound impact on daily life, enhancing focus and rest.
Our obsessive focus on the building envelope provides more than comfort; it ensures durability. By eliminating the risks of internal moisture and condensation, we prevent issues of mould, rot, and other factors that can degrade a structure over time. This protects your investment and ensures the building’s structural integrity for decades to come.
The result of this high-performance design is a drastic reduction in energy consumption—slashing heating and cooling needs by up to 90%. When coupled with other carefully selected technologies throughout the house, a solar array and battery storage, the home operates with an ultra-low environmental footprint and can achieve off-grid capability for significant periods of the year, leading to exceptionally low running costs.
This level of engineering provides true resilience. During extreme weather or power outages, the house maintains a safe, comfortable temperature for extended periods without any active systems. This “passive survivability” offers genuine peace of mind, knowing your home will remain a stable sanctuary regardless of external conditions.
